Christree
Creative Residence
ID Pool Vista Alegre 2017

The project “Christree” emerged during an artist-in-residence program at the VAA International Design Pool, which in 2017 aimed the exchange of ideas and experiences between Portuguese and Brazilian artists. Taking into consideration that I'm a Portuguese-German hybrid, Christree tries to unite the Brazilian, Portuguese and German culture in one piece of porcelain.
The illustrations were based on the already manufactured Xmas Tree of VAA, once that most of the traditions celebrated at Christmas have their origins in the German-speaking countries (from the Christmas tree to the rituals of decoration to Advent calendars and gingerbread house) and that the great spirit of Christmas is known for gathering people.
The bottom part represents Bremen (Germany) with a snowy Christmas Market, thanks to the German legend Frau Holle in the middle part in one of the colored houses of Costa Nova (Portugal) who shakes her bed and snow falls from the sky. On the top is finally Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) with the statue of Christ the Redeemer that inspired the name of Christree.

IDPool is a creative laboratory and production center in the areas of porcelain, crystal and ceramics, which aims to stimulate the exchange of ideas and experiences between creative artists. It is supported by Vista Alegre Atlantis, a company with a long and distinguished history since 1824 located in Ílhavo, Portugal, that harbors the competence, dedication and knowledge of handmade porcelain and traditional production processes.
